Introducing...ME!

Hello to everyone out there in blog world! I wasn't sure the proper way to start this so I decided to jump in feet first. I guess I wouldn't be here today if it hadn't been for a proposal. And a proposal would never have happened if I hadn't met my fiance. So I guess I'll start at the beginning. Everyone just loves to hear a good love story and who am I to deny you of that! So without further ado, I take you on a trip down memory lane...

Mr. Golden and I met in November of 2002 while we were working at the GAP. Til this very day, Mr. Golden still remembers what I had on the day he met me. Because of the holiday season and only having two classes due to being a senior in school, I was working two jobs in the mall. My second job was at Claire's Accessoires, which is predominatley an all girl store.

I can't pin point exactly when I began to have an attraction towards Mr. Golden, but I do remember the feeling of excitement that I got when I knew he was scheduled to work the same day as me, or the the urge to have longer conversations than the brief ones we would exchange in the stock room. I would also see Mr. Golden while working at my other job and he would drop by to see me, but most of the time I would be too busy to chat with him. Instead of him leaving the store, he would browse up and and down the aisles which led me to much confusion. I was always curious to know if he was looking for something for another girl or just stalling to be around me longer. Thank God it was for the latter!

Things changed between us when I got really sick. He came to my second job and asked what was wrong with my voice. I told him that I was sick and playfully asked if he was going to buy me soup. We laughed it off, talked for a little longer, and then he left. Ten minutes later he returned with soup for me and I just thought it was the sweetest thing ever. A week or so after that we exchanged numbers, I broke tradition and called him first, we went on our first date, and the rest is history!

Fast forward to 2007. There is a little history behind the few weeks that led up to the proposal. Mr. Golden is a man of tradition and asked for my parents blessing before popping the question. However, he played a horrible trick on me a few days before the proposal. I had no clue it was going to happen because the topic of engagement had always been our no-no subject. We talked about it in the past, but it would just make me anxious and I didn't want to put pressure on him. One day out of the blue, Mr. Golden started talking about it all the time and secretly I was getting my hopes up high. He even went as far as to show me a bag from Zales in the trunk of his car, only to start laughing and telling me that the bag was from a promotion they had going on at the mall where they were giving people free bottles of jewelry cleaner. My heart was crushed and I cried my eyes out! (Little did I know that my ring was being sized)

A few days later, Mr. Golden took me to Roosevelt Island which is sandwiched in between Queens and Manhattan. As we were sitting looking at the Manhattan skyline, he starts telling me about these cool new gold M&M's he found. Me being difficult, briefly looked at the M&M, told him it was yellow not gold, and proceeded to eat it. After eating a couple, Mr. Golden told me to read them. On them said, "complete me" and "vanessa marry me." Shock took over me and the only thing I could say was "Shut up, is this for real!" Mr. Golden went down on one knee. My knees got week and I started going down on my knees too. He laughed and told me that I had to stand up. We were quite a sight to see! He opened the black box and I said yes!

Here's a picture of the ring!
